Living room continued

Some things have been coming in between since I posted the first work in progress of this image. I haven’t had any time to work with it since.
Anyway, today I found a few hours, to continue the work. Tweaked the sofas and the rug and added a painting, a plant, a shelf, some magazines. And also did some work on the texturing and lighting.
I guess this project is quickly coming to an end. Well, I really have some other things I wanna sculpt and paint right now. Interesting that sometimes I can sit around and tweak and adjust things for days, and sometimes, like in this case, a project only needs a few hours to get a decent result that I feel I can stash away in the pile of finished work.
I will post the final image in the portfolio (Wohoo, for the first time in years) as soon as I’ve done the last adjustments and produced a final render.

New living room project started

The heat has been astonishing in Sweden lately. Even I have had a few trips out to the beach getting some variation on my nowadays so white skin. Anyway, Friday night, stayed home for once, and found some time to start on a new project.

I’ve been playing around with my new baby, LightWave 3D 9, as it has now left beta and gone gold and all NDA’s has been lifted. The third party community for LightWave is for the first time in some years growing in the right direction again. Lot’s of interesting announcements lately, with Syflex coming for LightWave and other nice plugins and addons.
Also the 3rd party renderers are starting to arrive. FPrime was the first to arrive a few years back, and has been my best friend for previewing in realtime and doing final renderings with. And now lately Maxwell was released, but it’s at the moment not something that I feel will fit into my budget. Another 3rd party renderer that is really interesting to me is KrayTracing. Kray is the most speedy photonmapping, lightmapping renderer I’ve tried so far, and the results seems to be excellent. And the fact that the price is a bargain if it delivers what I hope does help a great deal when I’m about to make the decision to add another renderer to my arsenal of tools.

So I thought I should do an interior visualization project to try out Kray with. So earlier this night I got into modeling some furniture. And then spent some time setting up a decent lighting. Well, still some road left to travel on this one. Need to tweak the sofas more, add some depth to the rug, and add some accessories around the room, and maybe something on the wall. And of course start working on textures and details. I’ll dig into this tomorrow.

Below is the first render from this project. Rendered in FPrime while working with it. When I’ve finished modeling and are happy with the setup, I’ll do a final FPrime rendering, and then get into Kray with the same scene and start comparing and see what I think of Kray with a finished project, to make final rendering. I’m really looking forward to this little experiment.

artstorm is dead, long live artstorm

Many years has passed since the site opened its ones and zeros out towards the world in dark, moody and brownish colors.

This weekend I felt it was time to kill of that design and give the site a more simplified lighter style, which doesn’t compete with the artwork in getting the attention.

Bye bye brownie….

LightWave 3D and CAD

Newtek was nice enough to give away LWCAD to pre-registered Lightwave 9 owners last week. Well, I just got around to install my copy and giving it a first try. At first glance it seems just wonderful, so I decided I’m going to make a little arch viz, using as much of LWCAD’s tools as possible. 3D and CAD gets a nice marriage with these tools.

I just got a floor plan of a larger apartment imported into Lightwave. So let’s see where this little baby will take the image I’ll create this time.

artstorm has been on the move…

Still alive over here!
Well, I must honestly say I’ve neglected the artstorm site way to much for quite some time. Makes me a bit sad. But lot’s of work have come in the way, so I haven’t really found any time to spare at this thing for a long time.

But now I’ve got things going a bit again anyway. I moved to a new better server the last week, and the move went smooth as a baby’s bottom, and I’m up and running on a much more stable place. But stability was not the only cause of my move, I was desperately urging for some more advanced server features that I’m going to need for some things I’ve planned for the artstorm site.

Keeping secrets is nice, and what new interesting things I intend to do with the artstorm site, will reveal itself during 2006. Lot’s of my personal projects have been going on even though I haven’t really dabbled with the site, so I’ll play a little catch up for some time to get back on track with portfolio updates and progress of my short movie projects.

I also started redesigning the site about a month ago, some changes which have already gone online, but the update is still somewhere in between, so that’s why the portfolio pages for instance look a little weird at the moment, and the text layout is not really perfect everywhere.
Well, I know I shouldn’t publish half made site updates, but, well, I did it anyway. But I’ll fix it at the end of the week.

Okay, I won’t ramble on too much now. Expect a new posting soon, and stay tuned for some nice updates shortly.

Oh, the the Gothenburg Filmfestival is going on now as well, http://www.giff.se, lot’s of nice things for me to do there. Okay, that might cause a week delay until I get into the updates of the site. Film festivals always have a high priority.. :)

Live well! I’ll soon be back!

More Eco Systems

Well, I’ve continued my explorations of Vue. And I guess there will be a couple of more of these entries until I’ve learned everything about this new tool in my arsenal. New productive tools are always a joy to learn.
Today I explored constructing my own terrains by painting them with the airbrush and then constructing a river in it with some foam on the shorelines, and having it populated with an ecosystem were I explored some more about controlling placement and distribution of the objects using functions connected to the rest of the environment.

Eco Systems and Me

Well, have had a soft weekend, but tonight I got some time to continue playing around with Vue. I just continued learning about Eco Systems in Vue, a very powerful feature that really seems to rock.

Here is a small Eco System render I just created. Enjoy. ;)

Vue, the second day

Amazing, blog entries two days in a row, that hasn’t happened for months. I hope this is a good sign and that it’ll continue down this path.

Vue Foam Shore

Experimenting with how to simulate foam at a shoreline

Today I am attending a wedding, for a colleague at work, but I had some hours during the morning to spare to continue my Vue explorations. It’s becoming very intriguing with Vue as I start to learn the different possibilities with it, and also leaving the basics and coming up with my own solutions. Next week will be a Vue week where I plan to finish my explorations of Vue and then have all knowledge I need to let it be a part of excelling my productions.

Vue is around

I haven’t written in my blog for a long time. Mainly because of my current work at GA has been taking up more or less all my time and I really haven’t had any time left over for personal things like Artstorm. Now I think I have been able to plan up things so I can dedicate more time towards my Artstorm projects though.
So let’s keep an eye on the site and see what happens in the next couple of weeks, hopefully there will be some action around here. :)

On another note, I purchased my Lightwave [9] preorder the other day, together with the Vue 5 Infinite bundle (an incredible deal by the way). LW[9] won’t be out for a couple of months, but my Vue 5 discs arrived this week. So I just started playing around with Vue tonight to start learning this software.
My first impression is that is seems to be very interesting, especially to accompany Lightwave with creating environments to composite Lightwave renders together with. I’ll for sure spend some time to really dig into Vue to learn more aspects of it.

Here is my first Vue render that was just completed an hour ago. Well, it’s my first, trying out the interface and some functionality, and I’ll continue posting some more renders as I continue to explore Vue.

Finally, there is a CG Society!

CG Society

CGNetworks recently took the initiative to form a CGSociety. Of course I’m fully supporting this great step and am a member of this society.

“The CGSociety is for creative digital artists. This is artists that uses computers to tell a visual story. No matter what the format or scope, from a still image to a complete film or game, telling a visual story is the thread that ties this community together.

The CGSociety is committed to enhancing the global state of creative digital arts. It celebrates, aggregates, supports, trains and promotes creative digital artists in their local and global communities.

The CGSociety is unbiased in its enthusiastic support of all genres, styles, tools and outlooks. It supports professional chapters including Film, Games, Concept Design, Visualization, Illustration, and more.”

It will be interesting to see how powerful the CGSociety will become, and what I’ll contribute with to it.
